Loafer or Slipper shoes for Women (Trend)

Oh my goodness, I finally finished all my major papers for the semester and now am ready to begin studying for all of my exams which begin tomorrow.  This semester has just been nuts and excuse me for not posting every day.  I will try to get back to the everyday.
I never thought I would say I like the loafer or slipper shoe trend, but I do.  One of my proffessors at college always wears them with skinny jeans and they are just cute.  I also waited on a girl at my work who had diamond studs all over her loafers, I made quite a big deal about them.  What do you think of this trend?  Will it last?
Here are some from Urban Outfitters

Here is a pair from Aldo.  They have so many other colors and styles too.

Steve Madden also has several different options.

DIY: Leg Warmers

Yesterday, I realized many of my pants were in the laundry so I had to wear my pair that exposes my ankles.  My feet were warm, but I wanted to cover my ankles as they were cold.  Being the odd little problem solver that I am,I decided to make leg warmers.  They are seriously really crappy at the time but I am planning on fixing them up a bit to be able to wear them out in public.  Here is a diy of how to make your own leg warmers.  For the rest of the sweater you can make a simple hat.  I did a Diy on it last year (here)...emilys-thefashionjournal.blogspot.com.
1. Find an old sweater.
-This particular sweater is wool, so it is very warm.
 2. Cut off the sleeves.

 3. Finish raw edges and wear!
-I did not finish my raw edges yet.

Blake Lively in Elie Saab (Blue Pantsuit)

For those of you who live in America, I hope you all enjoyed Thanksgiving yesterday.  I know I did!  My sister and her husband (I love saying that, they are a perfect couple) came over for our family feast.  The food was so delicious, my Mom is quite the cook!  Now, I am getting ready to do a large amount of homework tomorrow on my day off from work and school.  The semester is almost over and I think my head may explode from the stress which is about to insue.  I can not wait to graduate and get a job.  I love school, but it gets annoying and frustrating at times.  Anyway, in the fashion world...
I am a big fan of Elie Saab.  His use of color is amazing.  On that note, I can not stand pant suits.  I always imagine the kind in the 80's with the shoulder pads.  Clothes were so bulky and ill fitting at the time.  I have officially found a pant suit I like thanks to Elie Saab, who created this beautiful blue pantsuit, with lace shoulders and a plunging neckline.  Love it.  I found this picture of Blake Lively on people.com.

Warpaint "Undertow"- simple make-up inspiration

I love music.  If you are close to me, you probably know it very well.  I tend to go on tangents about music; what a song means to me, the history, how and why the song was written, etc.  Why am I writing about music on a fashion blog?  I have realized over the years that music inspires me in the morning when I wake up.  Music makes me dress and do my make-up a certain way in the morning.  If I listen to Amy Winehouse, then I do the big cat eye-eyeliner, if I listen to Nirvana then I wear dark make-up, my lace up boots and leave my hair in a state of disarrayed curls.  I love having music inspire me.  I have also found that my best sewn and designed outfits have come from inspiration in songs.  I really listen to any kind of music, except country, I can not take it.  Recently, I have been listening to a lot of music they play at Urban Outfitters.  I like it because these artist have talent, write their own songs, and it is really weird and different from mainstream.  I like being able to enjoy something which many are not used to listening to.  Anyway before I continue on tangent, I wanted to share a video and my simple make-up inspiration from it.
This is a song by a band Warpaint called "Undertow."  I really like the sound of the bands music, it is peaceful rock.  It is different.  I also watched the video, which is blurry like a memory or an old photograph.  This is actually the inspiration for my hair and make-up today.  I wanted to look blurry like an old photograph.  I did a simple natural face and eye make-up, with my usual black eye-liner.  I also just let my hair frizz today.  Though, half way through the day I ended up putting it into a messy bun on top of my head.  I took a few pictures of what it looks like.

-This one below is just in natural light, to show the colors I used. Simple.

Here is the video for "Undertow" by Warpaint

Monday Splurge- Anrealage Clear Floral Oxfords

I could never hope to buy these.  I thought I would start by saying that to make it clear.  These adorable $595 shoes, are similar to the trendy jellie shoes which I love to wear in the summer.  Only with these you can wear them in the winter and get away with it.  I just think they are so creative and beautiful.  If you want to buy them, then www.shopkoshka.com is where to go.

LeRoy Jenkins and Quinton (six panel caps)

Baggy jeans, large brimmed baseball styled hats with the stickers still on, Polo's, layered Polo's, baggy t-shirts, high top shoes, boat shoes; yes, I am attempting to describe the gansta style that so many young men and women partake in.  Personally, I have not been a fan of this style as it is kind of ridiculous.  Though I must admit I find there is something ever so slightly alluring to the odd trend which has been hitting high schools and the streets since the mid 1990's.  I own a pair of shiny black high tops, and mix them up with skinny jeans and a hello kitty sweatshirt.  I like being quirky time to time.  My point to this post is what if this trend took a turn to something more high fashion.  An odd thought to many, but add some florals to those wide brimmed baseball styled caps and you would get the collaboration designs of LeRoy Jenkins and Quinton.  I found these hats on the blog.urbanoutfitters.com/blog.  I instantly liked them.  They are ugly, but great all at the same time.  Honestly, I would wear it.  Let me know what you think.  They are only $45.50, I think it is actually a good price for hats of this style.  I got these pictures from LeRoy's website here is the link http://ljallday.bigcartel.com.

Thrifting...

Today I kept to my plan of going thrifting.  I had a great time and found one great outfit, which I did not buy because I am cheap.  I always have to think about buying something before I actually buy it.  I know it will still be there for a while, the 80's things usually do not sell very quickly.  I also found a large leather jacket in the mens section.  It was really to big, but I really liked the style of it.  I also did not take pictures, there were a lot of people and I did not want to make a fuss.  I did however get all the brand names for things that I found and actually found good pictures online.  First I found a pair of bowling shoes, and were hoping they were my size.  There was a big size 5 on the back, needless to say they were 2 sizes too small.  I was so sad, they had a vintage look to them and I would most likely wear them everyday.  Here is a picture.

I also found a pair of black boots.  They had never been worn and I instintly fell in love.  I tried a pair on and they were a little small.  I saw the name Bob Barker in the sole and came home to look them up.  Turns out that Bob Barker is a detention supplier, yes they are jail shoes.  I think it is so interesting, and am wondering how several new pairs of them ended up in a thrift store.  They were really heavy too and were a size 3.5 F.  I guess it means they are womens shoes.  Crazy.

Jessica Biel

I am so excited to say I am off tomorrow and am going thrifting!!!  By the time many of you read this I will be thrifting.  I plan to take pictures and possibly even a video.  I love not knowing what to expect when I go to thrift stores, the element of surprise is so refreshing and exciting!  For now I just wanted to share a picture I found of Jessica Biel.  I am not sure who makes this dress, but she looks so good in it.  I think it is a perfect fit and is a great dress for her body type. Jeffrey Campbell Shoes

Let's have a chat about how much I want shoes from Urban Outfitters, specifically several Jeffrey Campbell shoes.  I never seem to stop being impressed with his creations.  I have posted about him a ridiculous amount of times on my blog and plan to continue.  I think I am a bit obsessed, but his shoes are just incredible and gorgeous pieces of wearable art.  They are expensive and I sure as heck can not afford them, but it is still fun to dream.  The pictures are from urbanoutfitters.com under shoes; they are in no particular order below.

-I love these shoes both above and below!

 -Good ol' creepers.

Matching!

I recently promised I would write a post about matching, something which I believe I am actually quite bad at.  I will try my best to give my best tips about how to match and put an outfit together.
-Pulling out colors
-I simply mean, if you have a garment with a pattern, look at the colors and pull a color out to match with.  This is an easy way to ensure your outfit will have a good flow, and thus be aesthetically pleasing.
        -Here is an example...
-This is a top from American Apparel.
-To match it with pants, I pulled the color red out of it and matched it with the red pants.
-These high waisted pants from Forever 21.
-It may be hard to match outfits if you are shopping online because the oufit may already be styled with other colors.
-These leggings will also match as they are a reddish brown.
-If the oufit has a color in it like the red in my example, then you may also pair it with a darker red.

-What shoes to wear?
-Neutrals tend to go with anything.  Like the shoes paired with the leggings above.
-Below I played with color and mainly stuck with the neutral since the brightly colored shirt is the focal point of the oufit.

-Accessories?
-Bags and purses are always a fun way to create more of a statement.
-Some of the purses I did not pull from the colors in the garment, I went with compliments of the colors.
-All of the bags are from Urban Outfitters.

-By now you may not need any accesories, like necklaces, it just depends on how you style the outfit.
-If you would like to add something more here are some more accesory options.
-More accessories from Urban Outfitters

Matching definitly depends alot on your style, whether you are the type of person who likes to match or not.  The way that you acessorize also depends on what style you like.  I hope to do another post like this in the future.  Thank you for the request!
