Sewing Project

So, I promised a sewing project.  I actually made this over the summer for over my bathing suit and just as a hanging out shirt.  I used a rolled hem to finish the seams.  This shirt was not hard to make at all, I just made a pattern, cut, and sew.  I love the scarf around the waist because I can also put it in my hair.  As for the other sewing project that I am still working on, I have just been busy with school and work.  I am also trying to figure out how I want to design the front of the shirt that I am making.  For now enjoy this shirt.  Don't mind all of the miscellaneous objects scattered about, it is my sewing room and it is usually in disarray.

Designer Style

I am aware that I hardly ever post mens fashion.  I decided to show some of my favorite mens styles.  However, they are not worn by models, rather by a few designers themselves.  Many fashion designers have such a great personal style that I could post so many pictures on the subject.  Here are just a few.

This is non other than Karl Lagerfeld, designer for Chanel.  I love how in every picture that I have seen of him, he seems own the room.  He has such a strong sense of confidence.  He has a killer style with his back suit and gloves.

This is the adorable and lovable designer for Lanvin, Alber Elbaz.  He has a great style with his signature suits.  It is relaxed yet stylish.  He always looks so happy and humble, ya gotta love it.

This is the amazing designer Marc Jacobs, designer for Marc Jacobs (his own line) and now designer for Louis Vuitton.  He recently changed from an earthy feel to a much more sophisticated look with a suave new hairdo.

And now one of my absolute favorite male designer who takes his work seriously enough to become his work as he has stated before. By this he means that he takes the theme and ideas of his collections and puts them into his own personal style, that he usually reveals as he gives a thankful wave at the end of each of his fashion shows, John Galliano.

Like I said, these are only a few of the many styles that these men wear.  I could seriously keep posting pictures.

American Apparel

I actually got a new bag from my sister for Christmas which I love, but like shoes and make-up you can never have enough.  After I finally unveil my sewing project that I keep talking about, I would like to make a bag, possibly a clutch.  I am still deciding.  I found cute ideas on American Apparel, a site for all apparel that is American.  Actually, they have really great items and they are made in America.  Anyway, for these three bags, I wish I could make a combination of the three.  That will not happen though. I like the three individually but not all together.
I like the pattern and design on this one.

I love how big this clutch is, and it is cute.

This is just huge and shiny, yet I find something oddly appealing about it.
We shall see what happens!

1940's and 1950's Fashion

Tonight at work, I waited on three older women of whom treated me with the utmost respect.  They were so classy and respectful.  They were dressed fashionable, and slightly reminded me of Betty White, who I adore.  I then waited on a few girls who are in my age category, they giggled non-stop and had no respect for anyone who waited on them.  I have to say, I really do not appreciate the youth of today and am even embarrassed that so many act in such an inappropriate way.  I always try hard to be polite as possible, I know we all have our days, but with youth of today, they seem to act in a preposterous manner all of the time.  What I am getting at is the older women reminded me of what I imagine the 1940's and 1950's to be, many classy women, dressed in classy clothes acting classy.  I always watch older movies and observe how everyone seems to be so respectful of each other, my how times have changed.  Here is today's classy inspiration.  (I can't stop saying classy.)

These picture are from a 1940's fashion magazine.  I think they are very fashion forward and could even be pulled of today.

I love the fur on these coats.  Though, being in the 1940's they probably did not have animal rights activists, so the fur is probably real, but still beautiful.  I love the hat on the left, both my obsessions, bows and fur.

This picture made me laugh.  Due to the nations current involvement in war there was a fabric shortage, so women had to be crafty.  This liquid stocking is apparently similar to eyeliner and women would draw a line down the back of their legs to give the illusion that they were wearing stockings, pretty crafty!

Rosie the Riveter, a feminist icon of the 1940's.  She represents the many women that replaced men at the factory jobs as they were sent to war.

This picture below is of Ava Gardner, an actress of the 1940's.  I love how she was considered sexy, if you will, but she is still wearing clothes!  Amazing.

Howlies - Angeline (Official Music Video)

I found this band awhile back and immediately bought their first album.  I watched videos of them on youtube constantly and am amazed at how good they sound in concert.  I am a huge fan and made some of my friends become fans too.  Recently while constantly checking to see if they are coming out with new music, I found that they just came out with an EP on itunes for $4.95.  It is totally worth it, they are a talented band without your typical mainstream feel it is different, clear and slightly 60's sound.  This song "Angeline" is from their first album, though it is good I suggest to also check out more of their more upbeat tunes.  They are just awesome.  Leave a comment to let me know what you think.

Activewear

I am lazy, yes that is a confession.  I try to be healthy and walk, but between work and school it is hard to find the time.  This semester at school I am taking a volleyball class which makes me nervous considering I haven't played volleyball since 9th grade in gym class.  It also doesn't help that I am rather short at about 5'1 ish.  Anyway, we will be playing outside and we have to wear activewear.  I only own one pair of sweatpants to wear around the house and to sleep in but never in public because they are torn.  I also am an extreme hater of those who wear sweatpants on a daily basis, I don't understand the whole "I look like I just rolled out of bed" look.  It is even worse if you wear them and aren't working out everyday.  They are appropriate at certain times and places, but not everyday as a fashion statement.  Okay moving on...  I found some great outerwear non other than forever 21, the best place for all of your fashion on a budget needs.
These are so great to work out in great fit and flexibility without the bagginess of the sweatpants.

I like these too, they look comfortable.

I like the look and fit of this jacket.

Just a basic tee, with a great fit.

Cute tank, once again good fit.

Can't go wrong with a hoodie, ever.

Andy Warhol

I am still sewing, so I will have a sewing post coming up.  I am actually getting ready to go back to school it starts tomorrow, at least my two online classes then Thursday I have my two classes on campus.  I have been preparing myself for the return after the two weeks of break for Christmas and New Years.  I leave you today with an artist that has inspired me even before I new who he was.  Andy Warhol is one of my favorite artists,  love his screen printing technique and over all he is just an interesting human-being.  These are some of my favorites, although it is hard to find the originals as he has been copied so much.

Upcoming...

I wanted to post today something that had sewn, but due to my extreme hate of the thing that I was going to sew, I decided not too.  I am however, planning on having a sewing post coming up but you will have to wait.  Hopefully by tomorrow, but I will try not to make empty promises.  Anyway I did gather some old shirts from my Dad's closet today which I am excited to use maybe in my upcoming project, but for now here is some music to enjoy as I pull my hair out attempting to sew something that I like, can appreciate and be proud of.  This is Of Montreal "Famine Affair", the video is a bit flipped out but I sing this to my designs that I don't like.

Spring 2011

I went to the local bookstore today and absorbed every page of Marie Claire and Harpers Bazaar both of which featured the amazing looks for Spring 2011 rtw (ready to wear.)  Though blogs are a great source of fashion inspiration, I still love magazines.  Both of these magazines today made me so excited and very inspired to make my own looks.  I am planning on sewing something today inspired by the bright colors and stripes, with a 1970's flair which is coming in Spring 2011.  You will have to wait to see more.  Fashion makes me so excited every season it is almost pathetic!  Here are some photos that are great inspiration for the approaching season.
This dress is so much fun by Marc Jacobs.  I love the bright colored stripes.  I wish I could find the outfit that the model is wearing in the background that looks adorable too.

I like the abstract feel to this dress and the placement of the lines are so great.
This dress is by Prabal Gurung.

Ethnic prints are also coming, especially in Gwen Stefani's L.A.M.B. line.
I am such a big fan of Gwen in music and fashion, she is just awesome at life in general.

DENIM!!!  This is casual, comfortable, sexy and very seventies.
Amazing look by Elie Tahari.

I find this look to be aesthetically pleasing as I can not stop looking at the color combination, it is interesting yet chic.  Look by Proenza Schouler's.

Once again I find the color combination in this outfit allows it to be so interesting.  I love the blocks of color on the outfit, from the outline of the blazer to the collar on the shirt.  Look by Peter Som.

Celebrity Style

I had to work today, so therefore I do not have an outfit post.  First of all I want to once again wish everyone a very Happy New Year!  I can not believe that it is already 2011.  Life seems to be going fast ever since I got to college.  It is crazy.  Anyway, I love to follow celebrities styles!  Today I found a picture of Heidi Klum that I thought looks chic, boyish and incredibly comfortable.  I swear she can pull off any style and always looks good, which is amazing considering how she is a very busy mother.  Her daughter is so adorable too in this picture.
Her shoes and jeans make this outfit!
