Academy Awards part II

"And the Oscar goes to..."  I have never known a group of words to have such a reaction or an effect on so many people.  Whether it creates a gasp of those Oscar hopeful stars sitting on the edge of their seats awaiting for the ending of that sentence, or the fans and admires with smiles upon their faces in shock and awe of being able to witness such a magical night.  The Academy Awards is the only awards show that I know of that can offer inspiration, humor and acknowledgment to the movies that can shape, change, inspire our lives, all the while making us laugh, cry or even cringe with anger.  I being a movie lover, look forward to this night of frivolity.  I always dream that some day I may be able to witness this night, even if it is from the top balcony of the Kodak theater, where it is so high up that I believe one may need oxygen at those high levels.  I am just as happy though watching from my couch, as I did last night.  The hosts James Franco and Anne Hathaway, offered playful banter that kept the night lighthearted and insured that it ran smoothly.  They both did an stupendous job and looked great while doing it.  I lost count after Anne Hathaway's fifth wardrobe change.  I also sat and watched as all the stars arrived and explained who they were wearing and what they expected of the night.  I was pleased to say that no one's outfit disappointed, as no one decided to wear something see through or a dress made of a swan...(Bjork circa 2001.)  Though it may have been appropriate this year for Natalie Portman considering she was nominated and won best actress for the "Black Swan."  Speaking of Natalie Portman I will get straight to the great fashions of the night.  Starting with Natalie Portman who had such a glow to her, possibly from the nomination, or the fact that she is pregnant, or maybe even from that beautiful purple Rodarte gown, Tiffany jewelry and Jimmy Choo shoes.  I admire how no matter what she can always look so beautiful and classy.

I have always enjoyed Givenchy designs.  I was pleased to see that Cate Blanchett had decided to wear a lavender Givenchy Haute couture dress.  The dress seemed to fit her style and calm attitude.  She was also wearing Van Cleef & Arpels jewelry.  She looked simply dazzling.  Note the fabulous beading of lavender and a hint of yellow on the inner shoulder of the dress, I think it adds so much along with the cutout in the chest area, simply beautiful.

Reese Witherspoon always seems to know how to dress perfectly for every event.  I am absolutely unaware of her every making it on a worst dressed list.  Last night she looked simply classic and elegant in a Armani Prive black dress with a white trim at the top.  She accented the dress with beautiful Neil Lane emerald earrings.  Her hair and make-up was simple and perfect for her outfit.

Anne Hathaway as I had previously stated, made so many wardrobe changes.  The night began in a absolutely stunning Valentino dress.  Seriously though, no one has ever looked bad while wearing Valentino.  As she explained during a red carpet interview with Tim Gunn, who she was wearing Valentino stood by her side and also took part in the interview.  My favorite question that Tim Gunn asked, was if Valentino was proud of the direction that the House of Valentino is taking now that he is retired.  Valentino Garavani explained that he is proud and in no uncertain terms explained that one is still able to see his design aesthetic in the clothes.  I have to say I still enjoy Valentino clothing even though he is retired the House is still moving forward in a great direction.
The night ended in a great rendition of "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" by some very talented 5th grade students.  Overall, I highly enjoyed the night despite the reviews and harsh judgements of James Franco and Anne Hathaway's hosting skills.  I thought they did great and throughly enjoyed the night.  What did you think of the show?

The Academy Awards

The Oscars are still going on at the current moment, but I thought I would give an update.  My favorite dress of the night so far is from AmyAdams in her sparkling L'Wren Scott gown.  Her $1,350,000 of Cartier diamonds were also a nice touch.  Although, everyone looks beautiful, it is such a fun and inspiring night, you got to love it.

Oscars Predictions

Well tomorrow is Oscar day!  I am so excited.  The awards show is fun and all, but I live to see the actors and actresses walk the red carpet.  I have to admit I am curious to see the the opening speeches and introduction to the night by the hosts, Anne Hathaway and James Franco.  I admire them both as actors and people, they both have a great sense of humor.  Thanks to people.com I was able to snag and take some guesses at what the actors and actresses may wear.
Anne Hathaway
-Will she wear Oscar de la Renta or Marchesa, or neither?
-My prediction she would look so great in the Oscar de la Renta, she has the perfect figure for it.
Reese Witherspoon
-Will she wear Jason Wu or Marchesa, or neither?
-My prediction is the red Jason Wu.  It is a great color and would be perfect for her.

Natalie Portman
-Will she wear Dior Haute Couture or Chanel Haute Couture, or neither?
-My prediction, considering she is still pregnant she would look adorable in the Chanel Haute Couture, though I am hoping that at least one actress wears something from Dior Haute Couture because that line is amazing.

I definitely will be keeping you updated tomorrow during the show as quickly as I can.  I hope that everyone has a great weekend on that note!

Gianfranco Ferre

I have not ever noticed that much of Gianfranco Ferre, but now can not help to feel that I have been missing out.  Fall/Winter 2011 caught my eye with the first outfit that model Hailey Clauson worked down the runway in a fierce manor.  The multiple lapels and high collar is to die for along with the great tailoring.  I love the cool and calm vibe of the line and enjoy how it is still structured sexiness.  The boots are fabulous along with the simple hair and make-up, I love it all!

Spring/Summer bags

Well, people are beginning to complain of allergies that can only mean one thing, spring is quickly approaching.  That also means a mass amount of pollen that will turn absolutely everything into a powdery lime green mess.  Besides those negative aspects, I am more than thrilled for the warmer weather and for summer to get here.  I was perusing through my spring/ summer clothes and suddenly realized, I need clothes.  Yay for shopping!  I am beginning to plan what to buy and get the most for my money.  My biggest item for spring that I want is a maxi skirt.  I am really short though, so it makes it impossible to find one for my height, hence why I am planning on making a navy one out of the fabric I bought yesterday.  Other items I have not exactly figured out yet, so I searching the internet for potential buys.  Todays finds come from Urban Outfitters.

Alberta Ferretti

Today, I went fabric shopping.  I was disappointed when the only fabric store that usually has a wide range of the worst kind of polyester blends, had even worse options of all fabric types.  Feeling defeated I realized that there is another small fabric store that is a bit expensive but just may have the knit fabric that I was looking for.  I managed to find a navy colored stretch knit fabric that is fabulous.  Originally, I wanted a black knit but no one had it, so navy would do for the current moment.  Then I found a bright colored fabric with all of these pretty squiggly lines in it.  I was thrilled when I saw the Alberta Ferretti's line and a few of the designs had squiggles down the middle, what a coincidence.  My fabric is more for spring/summer, unlike Alberta Ferretti's which is for fall/winter.  I am excited to get working!

Inspiration

Cloudy days always seem to give me inspiration.  I am not completely sure why, but they do and that is just fine with me.  I was driving home today from school and passing several fields that lie fallow in preparation to be farmed once more.  They have a dark gray feeling to them, but then they are splattered with weeds that are the most brilliant purple.  The dark gray nearly verging on black sky was floating in a taunting manor over the fields and my mind directly went to thinking of a Tim Burton movie.  I love how his movies are so dark, yet they will every so often show the most brilliant colors that make you feel as if the movie may actually make you happy in the end.  While seeing these fields, the sky and thinking of Tim Burton, I immediately began to think of things to sew.  I nearly drowned myself with ideas.  This afternoon at work during a 5 second break where there wasn't a line, I got a piece of receipt paper and with hardly looking drew this horrible little sketch.  This is just the beginning though, I am trying to finish my homework in hope that today (23rd) may be able to create or sew.  I have a ton of homework though that is blocking my creativity at the moment.

If you are unable to tell what the heck I just drew, I do not blame you.  I can just say I am thinking of interesting patterns, maxi skirts, blazer, deep v neck shirt or tank, oh and so much more.

Vivienne Westwood Red Label

I understand that more recently I have only been reviewing lines from the fashion weeks.  I love doing it though so bare with me, then I will get back to more of the other stuff that is in my blog.  I have stated in yesterday's post, in no uncertain terms that I am one to be partial to the oddities that occur in the fashion world.  Vivienne Westwood is no exception as she always has something different to show, that really is not like any other.  The show began with the fabulously pink headed Charlotte Free, who in my opinion was the perfect pick for the outfits that followed in this crazy line up.  The clothes featured plenty of plaid, pinstripes, bright colors, prints, neutrals, well I guess pretty much everything.  I can not help but feel that many clothes were inspired by the circus or clowns as one t-shirt even has William Shakespeare with a clown nose.  What an exciting runway show.  In the first picture I absolutely love the feathered leg warmers.  Where I would wear them, I have no idea, but they are still so cool.

It was rather difficult to pick out pictures as the clothes are quite the mix.  Let me know what you think of the line.

Unique

Well it is London fashion week!  I love the fashion world and how quick it moves, that insures that I will always be entertained.  Though it must be incredibly crazy to work for a magazine, to cover every runway show and keep up with it all.  That would actually be amazing!  The shows in London have not disappointed yet from what I have seen.  I always am looking for the shows that have something a little extreme or different, so as of today the line by Unique was quite satisfying.  These designs that have a lot of fur and prints of dogs on them, were clearly inspired by dogs even the models hair resembled dog ears.  I thought that it was adorable and fashionable.  The shoes are so cute also!
